1949 FORD 3/4 TON HUB REMOVAL

from Dave O'Neill

Removing the hubs: Factory manual states that you should smack the end of the axle with a hammer to loosen the locking collars. If the collars are clean and there is no corrosion then you can get away with tapping the end of axle to loosen. I would not recommend this because you are creating an unwanted axial force on the bearings and races. You can use jam nuts (2 thin nuts tightened to each other) to loosen the stud and collar.
